but having the
chance, ten years later, to rewrite the dialogue and do it
all again was so much more rewarding creatively
The speech for me is always the most memorable aspect
of developing these adventure games. I'm often asked if I
really talk like the prince, and in a word, erm no,
not really!
Once recorded, we speed up the speech in post
production for the prince and lower the pitch for the
more meaner characters like the Lord of Infinity. We
also have a few tricks, like stretching a pair of stockings
over a coat hanger and fixing to the microphone, this
reduces the popping effect when pronouncing p's and s's. We
had to do this really as my Scottish accent is full of p's
and s's
In all honesty I had a blast,
once you get into the characters way of thinking about his
gaming environment something takes over and their
personality just seems to pour into the microphone. I know
that I drove everyone mad as quite often after six takes you
could here me saying...
can I do that one just one more time?
... it could be misinterpreted as perfectionism when in
actual fact I just loved prancing about and talking in that
affected way. In one of the episodes, I think it's episode
eleven, there is this huge rant about
Leonardo de Caprio's
professional demise, none of that was scripted but it was
so funny at the time of recording that we decided to keep
it in
My favorite phrase? Oh, I have so many favorites,
considering there are 4,730 of them too choose
from! I think the references to
Kylie always put a smile
on my face, I just hope she doesn't play them and file
any lawsuit. My only regret is that all twelve
episodes have now been re-recorded and well, I miss
it... roll on episode 13
